The Neurodivergent Entrepreneur’s Network (NEN)

Welcome!

The NEN aims to engage the neurodivergent community in the South of Scotland to support entrepreneurial activities through peer-to-peer coaching, focus group workshops, and a podcast showcasing relatable role models. Survey data will also be collected and analysed to highlight the business needs of the neurodivergent community, bridging the data gap around the needs of neurodivergent entrepreneurs in the South of Scotland specifically.

Project Outcomes

  • create an informal network specific to neurodivergent people to increase access to existing formal support networks (inc. SoSE & Business Gateway) and increase enterprise success
  • create a supportive and inclusive space for peer-to-peer connections and empowerment of our community
  • create a community of neurodivergent people that SoSE can consult with to gain a better understanding of how best to support underrepresented neurodivergent entrepreneurs across the South of Scotland

The NEN pilot is delivered in partnership with South of Scotland Enterprise.

Peer Support

The NEN peer support aims to engage with neurodivergent entrepreneurs in the South of Scotland in three ways (with the aim that some or all will be a good fit for most):

Peer to Peer coaching

Peer to peer coaching sessions are held weekly on Zoom at 2-4pm on Tuesdays.

The coaching will allow people to gain

  • a sense of community
  • empowerment to create their vision
  • business connections and support
  • promotion via NEN social accounts
  • shared expertise in navigating formal process e.g. Access to Work process

Facilitated in person and online Focus Group Navigating Neurodivergence workshops

Coming soon – in person and online workshops to explore neurodivergent brains and thinking styles, plus individual strengths, dreams and goals, and connect in a focus group to gain knowledge of the shared and individual needs of our community

  • facilitated set up e.g. branding ideas and professional photos
  • accessible workshops delivered in person in Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders, and online via Zoom
  • cohort of eight participants per workshop, with a finale conference style session to be shared as a podcast episode

Supportive Virtual Office and Body Doubling Space

As part of building a supportive online community this space is facilitated to allow community members to gain motivation and connection from working “alongside” each other, which is especially important in rural areas where travel distances, times and expenses may prevent regular in person meet ups

We Speak Tangent Podcast

We Speak Tangent is a podcast brought to you by the Neurodivergent Entrepreneurs’ Network (NEN), by neurodivergent people, for neurodivergent people. The NEN was established by five neurodivergent entrepreneurs in the South of Scotland – Dr Kat Mackay, Rachel Parker, Michael Greaves Mackintosh, James Alexander Gaffney and Amelia Pettman.

We Speak Tangent interviews neurodivergent entrepreneurs to empower members of the community to tell the story of their journey as relatable role models. We Speak Tangent aims to inspire neurodivergent people through validation and help to provide the information and connections they need to action their ideas and set up their own businesses within a supportive and inclusive community.
